WNBA coach suspended for "body shaming" 6'8" opposing player during argument with referee 🤦‍♂️
· May 28, 2021 · NottheBee.com

I'm just going to start by saying this: Las Vegas Aces center Liz Cambage, who is 6'8", could probably tear me to shreds if it came to like an octagon situation.

I'm willing to admit it.

However, I'm still gonna have to rip into her for this little story right here:

Now... looking at this headline you're probably thinking oh, I bet he called her a fat pig or something like that. Well you're wrong.

See basketball coaches are some of the most passionate coaches in sports. So when they see something happen on the court that they don't like, they're gonna say something about it. And it's probably going to be very loud! Likely there will be a foot stomp as well.

Well, it sounds like Connecticut Sun head coach Curt Miller witnessed one of his players fall victim to an uncalled foul either on the way to the basket or while posting up and trying to get a shot off. I really couldn't find out exactly what it was.

I want to stop here and point something out: the reason nobody really knows what happened is because this is a story about the WNBA, and honestly... nobody cares.

Anyhow, Liz Cambage, a 6'8", 235-pound giant, was responsible, in Curt Miller's mind, for fouling one of his girls. But it wasn't called.

So what did coach Miller do?

He started yelling at the referee.

And what did he say?

Well, among other things, he said something like, "C'mon, she's 300 pounds!!!"

Okay, admit it: that's kind of funny. And not far from the truth. And it's not actually body shaming (if you even consider "body shaming" to be a thing). It's hyperbole. But "body shaming" isn't the point here.

The point is: THIS IS A COMPLETELY NORMAL THING FOR A PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL COACH TO SAY!

And he wasn't "body shaming" her. He was exaggerating her weight because she's a flippin giant!

How often do you think Shaq was BoDy ShAmEd during his illustrious career?

This coach was simply looking to earn himself a makeup call later in the game.

Another thing coaches do well in all sports.

Anyhow, Liz Cambage was a little triggered by what coach Miller said, so she took to Instagram after the game to complain [language warning]:

Did you hear her call that coach "a little white one"? Not even gonna comment on that...

So now coach Miller has been suspended for a game and fined $10,000.

FOR "BODY SHAMING" A GIANT WOMAN!

And that's just… weird.

Usually you have to say something really horrible, or throw a chair or something, to get one of these suspensions.

But now it's 2021, and you get fined in professional sports for "body shaming" for literally just saying to a ref, "C'mon, she's 300 pounds!"

And if body shaming is frowned upon in athletics then we've got a clown world of sports headed our way.

As if it wasn't clownish enough already.
