Dana Scott Laughlin was swimming in Lake Berryessa in California shortly after graduating high school in 1969 when her class ring slipped off her finger and sunk to the bottom of the lake.
Recently, a couple who were fishing in the same lake found it when they turned over a rock by the shoreline. A mere 53 years after it was lost. That's a heckuva long time for a ring to sit underwater!
The ring had Laughlin's initials on it, so after some research, the couple reached out to Laughlin's son on Facebook and he was able to get his mom to identify the ring.
Laughlin told WPMI,
"I just said I was so grateful, and I couldn't believe that she had found the ring after so many years. I guess it was meant to be. My husband was like in a state of shock."
The couple mailed the ring 2,000 miles from California back to its owner in Foley, Alabama.
