Well, I guess this is a pretty decent indicator that Mike Pence is probably not going to be Donald Trump's running mate in 2024.
The NRA is, and always has been, very pro-Trump. It endorsed him in 2016 and in 2020. There is always a strong pro-Trump presence at its conventions.
Trump himself has always aggressively courted the gun-owning demographic. And they pretty much universally turn out for him. Here's a fascinating demographic point from the 2016 elections:
Got that? If we only count the votes of gun-owning households, Trump would win literally 49 states. Every single state but Vermont.
So we can be reasonably certain that Pence's getting booed at the NRA — in his own freakin' state, no less — pretty much seals the deal on 2024.
Trump, meanwhile, appeared to be egging the crowd on when he came out later:
"It's a big news story. You've made news today. I don't know what you did, but you made news today with the introduction you gave."
At least Pence can rest easy knowing he doesn't have to hustle too hard next year.
