Birmingham Southern College is playing in the College World Series next week even though the school will no longer exist at the end of the month

This is an absolutely wild story out of Alabama.

Birmingham Southern College, which has been in the city of Birmingham more than 150 years, is closing its doors on May 31. The college will no longer exist next month.

But the baseball team plays on.

On Saturday, the Birmingham Southern Panthers won their Super Regionals to advance to the Division III College World Series to represent a college that will no longer exist when they begin play.

The sports world has all eyes on Birmingham as the unprecedented feat continues to the College World Series.

Despite that stunning announcement, intercollegiate spring sports at the Birmingham campus continued and the Panthers baseball team thrived. BSC qualified for postseason play, won three games last weekend and advanced to the final 16 this weekend, toppling heavily favored Denison.

With Saturday's super regional clinching win, BSC earned a spot in the Division III CWS which starts on Friday at Classic Auto Park in Eastlake, Ohio, home of the Lake County Captains, high-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians.

The school no longer exists, as of their trip to Eastlake next week. So the school is asking for fans to help them fund their trip to the World Series.

They have to fundraise like a travel ball team now.

Truly amazing that they keep on playing and keep on winning.

What an awesome story!
