The scientific world, well at least the astronomical and cosmological portion of it anyway, is all abuzz regarding the photographic revelation of a curiously well-formed "square" on the planet Mars.
Both podcaster Joe Rogan and tech billionaire Elon Musk raved about the image posted here:
Now, as the Community Notes pointed out, the original image taken from the Mars Orbiter is far less precise and startling without the human editing:
But to me, the real story here isn't the eerie formation on Mars which, despite some impressively noticeable right-angled corners, could easily have resulted from the planet's winds blowing sand across its volcanic rock.
Consider a few of the Earth's features:
It could also be the clever work of a clever Designer who long ago told His cleverest design that if we're looking for it, "the heavens declare" His glory.
In other words, "If you're looking for proof of me, open your eyes."
And that is the real story no one should miss.
Here we have brilliant scientists and elite scholars mesmerized by the extreme complexity and unfathomable precision of a square shape on Mars. Why? What's so special about something as common to us as a square formation?
Because perfect squares don't happen randomly - they are evidence of design. To be clear, I don't disagree. It's almost silly to look at least at those edited images and not say, "Okay that's something that was designed by someone or something at some point."
The reason Joe Rogan, in his colorful vernacular, said the image was, "f****** wild," was because Mars doesn't have anyone or anything up there to create or design something. Or at least we thought it didn't.
But I have to ask us all to pause for just a moment and consider what we're all looking past.
Those same brilliant minds and elite scholars who are flabbergasted and intrigued by the "obvious indication" of intentional design of a square on Mars have been studying the incomprehensibly complex workings of the human inner ear, the elaborately complex functions of a cow's digestive system, the mysteriously mechanical operation of a human cell for centuries and have concluded, "Well there's nothing necessarily pointing towards design there - all you need are a few random mutations and billions of years of trial and error, and all that could happen without intelligence or intent."
Oh brother.
Moments like this - moments where those same folks let their guard down and freak out about the "obvious" evidence of design in a square - tells us the truth.
They all know.
They don't admit it, because admitting it means accountability, and it means dismantling the entire faulty assumptions of modern life science, but they all know we aren't living in a random, haphazard, unplanned, undesigned, uninitiated, uncreated universe. They all know.
Once the most famous agnostic on the planet, the late Carl Sagan dedicated his life to a project called SETI (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence). That's the group of scientists you see at the beginning of movies like Independence Day, Interstellar, Contact, or pretty much any film where aliens are involved, who are dedicated to finding signs of intelligence somewhere out in our galaxy or beyond.
The project currently includes 42 satellite dishes, with plans to expand up to 350, each 6 full meters in diameter. They are beamed to the sky, listening intently. And what are they listening for? What is it that they are hoping to hear because it will tell them, without hesitation or reservation, that they have found intelligence? A pattern. Dots, beeps, dashes, something cyclical or repetitive. "Nothing like that happens randomly in our universe," they say. "A pattern," they assure us, "simple or complex, always indicates design."
That's interesting. We have been staring at and studying the most absurdly complex pattern imaginable for the last 100 years. We call it DNA:
Simple-patterned beeps in deep space would indicate intelligent design but that - the incredible display of creative genius in that short video clip - is the mere product of random chance?
We all know better.
And no matter how hard the agnostic and atheist intellects among us try to avoid admitting that, their unrestrained excitement over beeps and squares admits it for them.
