Syndicated talk radio host Erick Erickson angered more than a few people recently by posting this provocative take regarding what should really have our society in a state of outrage:
Like Erickson, I have no interest in downplaying the seriousness of what happened at the Capitol riot. I also have no interest in pretending, against all available evidence, that it was some sort of well-orchestrated, legitimate military coup attempt. It was a rally-turned-riot that involved a serious breach of national security protocol. When those participating and violating the law are identified, captured, prosecuted, and punished, I see it as necessary justice.
But ask me to be outraged that Erickson would suggest a nefarious effort to erase the identity of females and males, including lesbians and gays, that has become so mainstream that it now boasts the unwavering support of:
- An entire political party in this country
- A near unanimity of major media outlets (print and broadcast)
- Academia and university administrations
- Big tech and every significant social media outlet
Some want me to be outraged when someone points out that such a movement poses a bigger threat to the stability of our society than January 6th.
Come on.
The travails of Lia Thomas, the biologically male champion swimmer who is now demolishing the competition and setting never-to-be-broken records as a member of the University of Pennsylvania's women's swim team, are alarming from a fairness and equity standpoint alone. Permitting biological males to participate in divisions and classifications specifically reserved for biological females undermines the entire premise of sex-distinct athletics.
What's at stake in this debate is nothing short of the preservation of women's sports. Should the U.S. Women's Olympic soccer team continue to exist, or should it be filled with the FC Dallas Under-15 biological males who defeated them in a scrimmage a couple years ago? Should female high school track stars be given scholarships, or should they go to the biological males who are faster than them? Are there to be sex distinctions in athletics, or not?
If you think it stops with athletics, you aren't paying attention. The biological male who identifies as Rachel Levine crowed about being "the first female four-star officer of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps" last fall.
And more recently, there was this:
To be blunt, I'm not entirely sure why a game of intellectual aptitude needs to be segregated by sex in the first place, though our woke culture warriors are happy to explain:
The irony of this explanation, of course, is that Amy is a biological male. This "space" being reserved for women, in other words, is now not only being occupied by a man, but major media and culture are celebrating how the smartest women in our country are males. This is a demeaning and dehumanizing insult to females everywhere. For all our society's talk about "dismantling the patriarchy," this new, culturally-approved, blatant, transparent misogyny is an odd way to go about it.
None of this should be regarded by any thinking person as a personal insult to the valuable and precious souls of those involved. The biological male identifying publicly as Amy Schneider obviously possesses a gifted intellect, and by all indications, comports himself in an exceedingly polite manner. After passing the mark of Julia Collins, the woman with the highest winnings in the history of Jeopardy!, Schneider paid his respects:
"I also just liked that she played very straightforward, and just being smart, [and] just being fast on that buzzer… I liked that about her as well. I wanted to wear a sweater because that was kind of her thing. Kind of in tribute."
There's no intended malice in Schneider's words or actions, and there need not be in the sane, reasonable response of a scientifically-grounded and morally-conscious society that acknowledges his personal dignity and celebrates his accomplishments for what they are (he has the 4th highest total in the history of the game show) without insulting the minds, efforts, and intellects of females in the process.
Fewer public voices than ever are willing to say these true things. These true words are being censored and silenced by every major media publication in America, reported and suspended from every major social media platform in America, condemned and barred from every leading college lectern in America, and vilified for the purpose of raising campaign funds by one of two major political parties in America.
All of this tells any rational thinker that Erickson was right.
This rebellion against reality – this insurrection against truth – is a threat that looms far more imminent and perilous for the future of our civilization than the immature, illicit, and illegal riot of January 6th.
