The Left’s pearl clutching over Brandon is embarrassing

For those who may be unaware, though by this time that number must be startlingly small, the phrase "Let's Go Brandon" has become a rallying cry for the rapidly increasing portion of our population that disapproves of the manner in which President Biden is executing his presidential duties.

It evolved as a joke after a far more crass and vulgar phrase directed at Biden began echoing through stadiums, arenas, concert venues, and racetracks. Following a NASCAR event, an NBC reporter apparently attempted to cover up the lewd chant by claiming the crowd was merely encouraging the race winner (Brandon Brown) by saying, "Let's go Brandon."

More than a few MAGA supporters had a field day with that scene, and since then, the "Let's Go Brandon" chant has gone viral throughout the country, gracing t-shirts, placards, tattoos, the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, and even the pre-flight announcements of a major national airline.

Southwest Airlines says it is now conducting a full investigation after one its pilots recently concluded his greeting to passengers aboard a flight from Houston to Albuquerque with the three-word phrase that is code for "f*** Joe Biden."

Reaction on the Left to this recent craze has been nothing short of unhinged melodrama. For a portion of the population that has long mocked religious conservatives for all-too-frequent "pearl-clutching," it's hard to imagine anyone applying more undue pressure on their own pearls than what the left has done since the Southwest story broke.

For example:

Good heavens.

To be clear, while I understand it's a provocative way for some to voice their frustration, I personally don't use the phrase and have this weird belief that there are far more effective ways of expressing yourself than resorting to profanity or its clever disguises. I also think it's not only gross, but also an incredible indictment on a church's effectiveness in discipling a congregation when those gathered ostensibly to praise Jesus break out in this worldly, political chant.

All that said, don't believe this progressive caterwauling over the loss of civility in our political dialogue is sincere. Remember, these are the same folks who raucously applauded the likes of actor Robert De Niro, who took to the stage at Radio City Music Hall and shared a two word message with the nation watching the 72nd annual Tony Awards: "F*** Trump."

He received a standing ovation from the very same people now overly concerned about pilots verbally supporting Brandon.

De Niro isn't the only progressive who freely basked in the cesspool of vulgarity who is suddenly getting his knickers in a knot over public impropriety.

Of course, let's be clear that this is far from a new political phenomenon on the Left. Former Democrat presidential candidate and current climate envoy John Kerry infamously quipped back in 2006 that he should have "gone to 1600 Pennsylvania (then President Bush's address) and killed the real bird with one stone."

Former Democrat Representative Paul Kanjorski called for the execution of Florida Senator Rick Scott. "They ought to have him and shoot him," Kanjorski said. "Put him against the wall and shoot him."

Liberal TV and radio star Montel Williams publicly urged former Republican Representative Michele Bachmann to slit her wrists.

"Move that knife up about two feet," he continued. "I mean, start right at the collarbone."

And the list goes on and on, with even former George W. Bush press secretary Ari Fleischer noting the inconsistency:

There's no question that the political Left is embarrassed right now. Despite wielding control of all branches of elected federal government and maintaining a stranglehold on the bureaucracy, our country is demonstrably worse off than when they took office. Biden is rambling and often incoherent, Kamala Harris is a train wreck, Democrat Congressional leaders are as unliked as they are ineffective. Voters are noticing, polls are shifting, and the largely hapless Republicans are in excellent position by default to make serious gains around the country.

I get that they're looking desperately for something – anything – to earn voter sympathy. I'm just not sure decency and civility is a slogan the party of "F Trump" is going to successfully sell.
