The hard-hitting journalists over at "TheWrap" were all over the scandal like stink on garbage. With the penetrating insight, intellectual curiosity, and philosophical depth that defines a news and culture site covering such crucial matters as whether or not Newsmax host Greg Kelly actually wears $1,400 cargo pants (no, I'm not kidding), their intrepid journalists provided extensive coverage of Tesla CEO Elon Musk hosting Saturday Night Live.
Noting that Musk once "mocked people's gender pronouns," TheWrap concluded that there were a multitude of "solid ethical and moral" reasons to be incensed that the eccentric billionaire would be appearing on the show.
"But on top of those things, there was another big reason that you might think would be important to the powers that be at ‘SNL,'" they wrote. "Elon Musk isn't funny or entertaining in the least."
Given that we are all suffering through the Woke Renaissance these days – a movement that seems incapable of accomplishing anything besides stripping the joy and humor out of everyone's lives – an unfunny and boring Musk would surely fit right in on the show.
Gone are the days of Chris Farley's Chippendale routine and motivational speeches to an unable-to-compose-himself David Spade. The show lost its humor and edge a long time ago. A program that used to delight in pushing the envelope and airing counter-cultural themes is now staffed with cast members who objected to appearing on stage with Elon Musk because he triggers their sheltered, narrow-minded, dogmatic worldview.
In an ironic way, I think that's actually the funniest thing about SNL these days. A show that used to pride itself on being countercultural is now a safe place for conformists: wear your masks, get your vaccines, post your pronouns, laugh at Republicans, laugh with Democrats, use politically correct labels, eschew organized religion, worship sexuality, and regard any joke about progressive ideology as a crime against humanity.
Who has time in their lives to tune into a show like that, unless it's just to observe the self-absorbed train wreck out of sheer morbid curiosity?
I'll admit that watching people pretending to be countercultural march in compliant lockstep with the drumbeat of their woke ringmasters is the only reason I ever watch anymore. The entertainment community's blissful lack of awareness that their own conformity has made them into a brutal self-parody is sometimes too good to miss.
What is going to be even more hilarious is when it finally dawns on them that in their woke fanaticism, they've lost the plot and they're losing the people:
- LeBron James can only play the "all cops are bad" card so many times before his name becomes a punchline.
- Feminists can only trash J.K. Rowling's logical opposition to transgender ideology so many times before people recognize they're full of it.
- ESPN can only turn every sports story into a battle over racial justice so many times before people stop tuning in.
That's exactly the point that legendary comedian Dave Chappelle made regarding the recent SNL meltdown over Elon Musk.
"No one can be woke enough," Chappelle remarked. "You're not gonna nag people into behaving … In fact, if you continue with this tone, even if you're right, you'll be very hard to hear."
Even though the largest part of me feels sympathy for them, I admit it's a little bit funny watching the philosophical collapse of those who for years chirped warnings about the "Bible-bangers" in our culture. To hear them tell it, right-wing religious zealots were on a war path to make everyone conform to their rigid and unforgiving ideology.
