Vivek schools CNN comedian Jim Acosta on Trump, pardons, and national unity

There are more than a few political observers who think that Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy is in the race for two reasons:

1. Concentrate his impressive rhetorical firepower on Trump's chief rivals, particularly Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
2. Audition for a role in a second Trump administration should it happen.

I am largely in that camp. I don't think Vivek has much of a chance at the nomination. I think he's smart, that he's incredibly eloquent (like seriously, it's astounding that Republicans have gone from the bumbling days of George W. Bush to quick-thinking, polished speakers like Cruz, DeSantis, and Vivek), and that he has calculated former President Trump is most likely to be the party's nominee.

In light of all that, I would add two additional long-term reasons Vivek is running:

1. He is attempting to go from obscurity to well known, to make his a household name.
2. He is wanting to have a title to run on in 2028 ("Secretary of State" or "Vice President" suggests a presidential timber that "entrepreneur" just doesn't).

Whatever you think of these assumptions, you can't argue with the fact that Vivek is presenting himself admirably to the electorate, Republican or otherwise - not just because he sounds smart and well informed, but because he seems to have common sense and a legitimate sense of what it will take to finally unify the country.

Given that the charges against Trump have been so heavily mired and based in political calculations, I mean, seriously …

… given all that, there's simply no way that there's any kind of rest on the right (or at least in the portion of the right that wears red hats) if Trump meets any kind of legal punishment. It's not that those people believe Trump is above the law; it's that they believe this is a witch hunt and illegal itself.

While it's true Trump doesn't use unifying speech when referring to his political enemies, he stopped short of prosecuting them. Remember, it was Trump himself who chose not to pursue "locking her [Hillary] up" in 2017 for this very reason.

The media doesn't get this. In their bloodthirsty desire to exact revenge on a man who consistently mocked them and scoffed at their inflated sense of self-importance, the media fails to see how critical national unity is to the preservation of peace.

Though they fail to see it, Vivek does not. Perhaps that's why his popularity is surging.
