What the Heck: Cheat sheets, clapping seals, and no more lies

Another week, another barrage of the inexplicable. Here are the three that stood out.

Cheat sheets

It was a big week for President Joe Biden, who announced his re-election bid with the kind of fanfare and vigor you might expect from a man so cognitively dysfunctional. The committee of people actually running the Biden operation behind the scenes – whether that's former President Obama, Biden's wife Jill, or some other progressive Democrat cabal – managed to come up with a slogan that would make Corn Pop (who was a bad dude, you know) proud: "Finish the job."

So with all the excitement of a nursing home cafeteria on Salisbury steak night, team Biden/Harris hit the ground running with a little Q&A with reporters. Just your standard, completely unscripted, off-the-cuff, shooting of the breeze with the Commander-in-Chief.

Okay, I think most every American who is at least vaguely aware of our political system understands how theatrical it has become. Republicans campaign as swamp drainers and abortion enders only to get to Washington where they can settle into that swamp and make deals with the Planned Parenthood gators. Democrats campaign as fiscally serious friends of the working man only to spend money that belongs to our great, great grandkids, driving up inflation and crushing the middle class.

So while I don't think that anyone is going to be floored that this administration is wanting to make sure their mentally declining figurehead has pre-scripted answers written for him, who this should really humiliate is the media. Imagine being so committed to furthering the agenda of the current regime that you're willing to cash in your credibility, prostrate your professionalism, and deceive the American public into believing you're not part of a dog and pony show to prop up a flailing presidency.

Maybe Elon needs to tag all these outlets with the "state-affiliated media" label on Twitter.

Clapping seals

While we're on the topic of self-flagellating humiliation, I saw this recent clip of climate campaigner Greta Thunberg speaking to a room full of adults. I have no idea what this award show was, nor do I care. Watch this clip for the full 49 seconds remembering that this is a high school drop-out who has no expertise in the very field where she's been made an honorary celebrity.

[Warning: Language]

As a high school teacher, I've observed more than a few kids who routinely exhibit an extraordinary amount of confidence and self-assurance despite lacking any real reason to. They don't know what they're talking about, but the way that they carry themselves seems sufficient to convince their peers otherwise.

Greta puts off those same vibes. She's repackaging slogans and statistics, speaking from a position of hijacked moral authority despite having no real expertise, wisdom, or proficiency. But go back and watch the video again. Look at all the grown adults mesmerized by her: The fanfare, the unnatural infatuation with youth, the mindless, sycophantic clapping like trained seals.

Is it not so weird that grown adults behave this way and feel no shame?

No more lies

And speaking of feeling no shame, what supposed adults continue doing to their children on the altar of pop culture trends is gut-wrenching. This last week, Daily Wire commentator Matt Walsh recorded and posted a direct response to a man who "transitioned" from male to female and now goes by Jazz Jennings. Jennings had lashed out at Walsh for bringing harm and threats to transgender people like him, pleading with Walsh to just leave them all alone.

Everyone has their own opinion on Walsh's style, but all things considered, it's hard to watch this brief rebuttal and not conclude that more of this kind of honesty and truthfulness is needed right now. Take the time:

"I won't lie to you." Five powerful words that all of us, especially those who are Christians, should choose to live by in these deceptive days.
