Things have been a bit strained in the Democratic Republic of Michigan. Governor Gretchen Whitmer, aka the Mitten Queen, has had the state in perpetual lockdown for months. Many citizens, including Yours Truly, are more than a bit frustrated at the Queen's abuse of emergency powers. GOP members of the Michigan legislature are currently suing Gov. Whitmer and countless small businesses have been forced to permanently close – many of them in rural areas with hardly any 'Rona cases. A formal petition to limit the Queen's powers has already garnered over a hundred thousand signatures in less than three weeks (while the Queen herself is busy declaring racism a "public health crisis" and meeting with Joe Biden to audition for VP).
Suffice to say, people aren't happy. Don't take my word for it, though. Grab a bucket of popcorn, head over to Disrn, search Whitmer's name, and enjoy hours of unbridled tyranny!
(A picture of Queen Whitmer in Narnia, probably)
It's one thing to make a sign in protest, but you know the frustration is real when a pilot spells out "FU" in his flight path above Grand Rapids, Michigan – the state's second largest city – in response to another extension of lockdown.
Virtually all of the state's nursing homes have been in complete lockdown, putting the elderly in near total isolation from family, fresh air, sunshine, liberty, and all the other things that make life worth living. Dorothy Pollack, a resident of Muskegon along Michigan's west coast, celebrated her 103rd birthday June 16 in her nursing home.
Last week, finally freed from the Mitten Queen's icy grasp, Dorothy once again stepped into the outside world. What were the first things on her to-do list? Why, get a tattoo and ride a motorcycle, of course!
If Dorothy can teach us anything, it's our attitude in the face of fear. During this pandemic, some people have responded by drawing their blinds, hiding in their houses, and donning layers of masks and a gallon of hand sanitizer every time they poke their head outside. They live in abject fear of the unknown, waiting for all danger to pass before resuming life. Others, like Dorothy, get a tattoo and take a sunset drive along Lake Michigan's coastline.
Which person would you rather be?
