Many if not most kids dream of stealing dad's car keys, hopping behind the wheel, and taking the car out for a spin. That kind of fantasy is just part of a normal childhood.
But this - uh, well, this goes a bit beyond that I think:
Officers arrested a 12-year-old boy after he stole his grandfather's car and drove 160 miles across the state, eventually leading police on a 'short pursuit' that ended with a PIT maneuver.
The Grant County Sheriff's Office (GCSO) announced on Wednesday afternoon that deputies had arrested a 12-year-old boy who first came on their radar when a police department over 160 miles away notified them that the child stole his grandfather's car.
One hundred and sixty miles is very, very far. If you're having trouble picturing the distance from Issaquah to where the boy was arrested in Grant County, here's the map:
That kid was absolutely stepping on it.
The boy really did try and make a run for it:
The boy led deputies on a short chase that ended when a deputy used a PIT, or precision immobilization technique, maneuver, causing the boy to lose control and stop the car when it abruptly turned sideways.
The boy was arrested "on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle and felony eluding."
