Imagine being the dove that got nailed by that ball. Here you are, flittering around as a 5-ounce bird and a baseball with similar mass runs into you.
That baseball, however, is traveling at 100 miles per hour.
As the physicists among us may know, force equals mass times acceleration. In this case, said force was enough to absolutely gut that bird from bow to stern.
What are the chances of this happening? The odds that that bird would be flying in that precise moment in time and space? It's mind-blowing, really.
