Two deadly attacks last Thursday in the West African nation of Burkina Faso resulted in the killings of 44 people last week.

The attacks took place in the villages of Kourakou and Tondobiin an area controlled by Islamic radicals leading to some speculation that the attacks were likely carried out by Islamic terrorists.

Police pinned the blame on the more generic "armed terrorist groups."

Here's more from a South African outlet:

Burkina Faso is one of the most unstable nations in the world and with ongoing violence throughout the country, more than 2 million people have been displaced in the West African nation. Islamists regularly lead raids that kill dozens of people. Earlier this year, they captured 50 women in an organized raid.

The majority Muslim country has been in a constant state of warring violence for more than a decade now, and the regions where these attacks took place area described as "ungovernable."
