I'm shocked these illegal immigrants wouldn't report to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Shocked.
Approximately 50,000 illegal immigrants to the U.S. who crossed the southern border were recently released into the U.S. without a court date.
The illegal immigrants were instead given "addresses and contacts for ICE offices across the country and [were] told to report to one of them."
Only 13% (6,700) of them have reported to ICE.
Who could have seen this coming?
Roughly 16,000 of them have not shown up and are beyond their 60-day reporting window.
Another 27,000 of them are still within their 60-day window to report but also have yet to appear.
Axios reports it is "unprecedented for agents to release migrants without an official notice to appear in court."
Apparently, they were expecting illegal immigrants to voluntarily report to ICE with "the hope" that "migrants [...] show up to these offices after reaching their final destination to get work permits."
"While individuals have 60 days to check in with ICE, many are proactively reaching out to ICE to begin their official immigration processing, including by receiving a Notice to Appear," said Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Meira Bernstein. "Those who do not report, like anyone who is in our country without legal status, are subject to removal by ICE."
The White House released a statement on Tuesday called "The Biden Administration Blueprint for a Fair, Orderly and Humane Immigration System."
"We will always be a nation of borders, and we will enforce our immigration laws in a way that is fair and just. We will continue to work to fortify an orderly immigration system," the White House said"
The U.S. has "processed over 12,500 people who had been returned to Mexico under the Migrant Protection Protocols," according to the White House."
"The Biden-Harris Administration has accomplished this and more while reckoning with the prior Administration's cruel and reckless immigration policies, which exacerbated long-standing challenges and failed to securely manage our border," the White House said.
The Biden Administration seems to be trying to flex its tough-but-fair-on-immigration muscles. However, these actions drop in the bucket when you consider the U.S. has made 1 million apprehensions of illegal immigrants since October 2020.
Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) said up to 55,000 illegal immigrants have been released since March. Over 20,000 apprehensions were made in just one week in the Rio Grande Valley.
Yeah, I'm sure the Biden Administration will get started on that removal process RIGHT AWAY.
