A cat found at an Oklahoma shelter originally came from England and nobody knows how he got here

Pets can go long distances, no doubt about it. You've heard stories of lost dogs following their owners across the country. It's happened.

But ... across a literal ocean? That seems rare:

Lost pets sometimes end up very far from home, but a stray cat in Oklahoma may have most of them beat.

The cat's original home is apparently across the Atlantic Ocean. How it got to the American Heartland is anybody's guess.

Now, when you hear, "Cat made it across the Atlantic Ocean," you might be picturing an absolute monster of a cat, some totally jacked-up beast of a feline, like:

... but it's really not like that. It's just, you know, a normal cat.

That doesn't look like the kind of kitty that could swim itself across the Atlantic.

You might further think: "Well, gee, why don't they just look up the cat owner via the chip, and solve the mystery?"

But the mystery is apparently even more bizarre than that:

Anderson said they contacted a dog warden over 4,000 miles away in the U.K. and found a woman with a matching chip.

However, this led to an even bigger mystery, as her cat was sitting right next to her.

'Yeah, her cat was right there with her, so something happened when they microchipped the cats, they probably got switched, and we haven't been able to track down the other numbers,' Anderson said.

Yeah it's starting to feel like this cat is part of some international conspiracy. We need someone to solve this ASAP.

Don't worry though, they're not going to ship ol' Samson back to the UK, as it would be "really expensive" to do so:

Somebody loved this cat and put the money into getting him over here but it's just hard to tell what happened to them, maybe they passed away or something, and it's just really hard to tell. But he's with us, and he'll get a good home either way.

Welcome to America, cat!
