A Catholic church in Italy is apologizing after a bishop told children Santa doesn't exist

Is an apology really necessary here?

I really don't think an apology is necessary here.

A Catholic diocese in Italy has publicly apologised after its bishop told a group of children Santa Claus does not exist.

The Roman Catholic diocese of Noto in Sicily said Bishop Antonio Stagliano was trying to underline the true meaning of Christmas.

Trying to underline the true meaning of Christmas?

You mean, like, Jesus?

Oh no!

Mr Stagliano was also trying to explain the story of St Nicholas, a bishop who gave gifts to the poor and was persecuted by a Roman emperor.

He's explaining that Santa is just an adaptation of St. Nicholas (of course, modern Santa is more based on consumerism and wanting things than giving and necessity).

And then he must've just flat out said it, and I'm paraphrasing, "Santa's not real."

And children heard this, okay...

CHILDREN!!

Okay, besides the fact that this is funny (because anytime a child finds out Santa isn't real, it's funny), it's also sad.

Because I bet if you asked Christian children today what Christmas is all about, a good handful of them would mention Santa and gifts.

Most would answer Jesus, I hope.

But for this church to apologize for Christian truth being thrown down inside their place of worship, that's just bogus.

We're here for Jesus, not some fat guy in a suit.
