This is the kind of grim irony that's usually reserved only for bad novels and cheap network dramas. But it's real:
After her husband died last year, she wrote a children's book on grief. Now she's charged with his murder.
Kouri Richins was arrested on Monday in Utah and is accused in charging documents of poisoning her husband with a lethal dose of fentanyl at their home in Kamas, a small mountain town near Park City. ...
The victim, Eric Richins, had reportedly told friends that he thought his wife was "trying to poison him." Which, I'm not trying to blame the victim here, but if you think that's true, shouldn't you, y'know, gather your kids and get the heck out of there?
I'm just saying. In any event, it went down like this: Kouri called 911 in March of 2022 and said her husband was "cold to the touch." She claimed to have made him a drink before going to put one of their kids to bed, only to come back later and find him dead.
A medical report determined he had "five times the lethal dosage of fentanyl in his system." Since he was not apparently a known drug user, this was a bit suspicious. Investigators have since uncovered evidence that Kouri allegedly procured drugs from a suspected drug dealer prior to her husband's death.
The murder charge, meanwhile, comes
two months after Richins appeared on local television to promote "Are you with me?" a picture book she wrote to help children cope after the death of a loved one.
Kouri dedicated the book "to my amazing husband and a wonderful father." 😬
