A government healthcare worker in Italy got paid for over 15 years without ever showing up for work, and we should totally try universal healthcare in the states because I want that guy's job

Man, I'd totally love to have this guy's job.

Imagine how much extra time I'd have to write for this lovely website right here!

Too bad I work in the private sector (like a dummy) and I'm actually expected to show up for work every once in a while.

Joke's on me, I guess.

Yup, Salvatore Scumace, the guy's 66, he took a job at a hospital in Catanzaro, Italy in 2005…

2005!!!

And dude never showed up once!

But oh you betcha, you know that man got paid!

Over a span of 15 years he made €538,000 which comes out to $646,676, or just over $43,000 a year.

That's a nice little government paycheck right there!

Especially considering the fact that he never actually did anything!

Side note: do government employees ever really work, though?

Totally joking... sort of.

And I wonder what he did during his time off. Did he have a side hustle? And can you even call it a side hustle at this point? If he didn't have a side hustle he better have been doing something cool like fishing off the coast or brewing some yummy Italian beer.

Anyways, this dude, in order to cheat the Italian system, only had to threaten ONE MANAGER who was onto him a while back. And once that manager retired, nobody else caught on. Or maybe they did. Six of Scumace's managers are currently under investigation.

As for Salvatore, the sneaky devil:

He is now being investigated for fraud, extortion and abuse of office.

Well, at least the government did something right!

Took ‘em long enough...
