Little cultural wins like this sure do feel good.

Controversy erupted in the tiny town of Mullins, South Carolina, after the town's mayor ordered a Nativity scene removed from a public parking lot due to "separation of church and state."

Here is the tiny light-up Nativity that the mayor wanted removed:

Kimberly Byrd, Mullins Beautification Committee

Doesn't seem like a big deal, right?

But Mayor Miko Pickett, who proudly advertises herself as the city's "first black mayor," said "not so fast."

In a post on Facebook, she explained her reason:

I would like to clarify my reported comment about the nativity scene. I requested that the nativity scene be removed solely from the PUBLIC parking area. The reason for this is the separation of Church and State applies to muncipalities as well, regarding religous symbols on public property and parks [sic]. We are a community composed of various ethnicities and religious beliefs. Both my family and I are deeply rooted in our own beliefs. I want to emphasize that I have never stated that nativity scenes should be prohibited in Mullins.

Kimberly Byrd, who leads Mullins Beautification Committee responsible for the display, responded to the mayor's utter retardation.

Our small town, we have a church on every corner. It's a faith-based community in the Bible Belt. I've been here 53 years of my life and never heard of anything like this happening here. Christ is why we celebrate Christmas. I really thought she would probably change her mind or come back and say, โ€˜I'm sorry, I made a mistake. Let's have a meeting about this,' but nothing.

So, what did the committee do? THEY IGNORED THE MAYOR.

Byrd explained: "I never thought I'd have to do anything like this. But at the end of the day, we have to stand for what we believe in and what is right."

It should be noted that the Supreme Court already ruled in the 1984 U.S. Supreme Court case Lynch v. Donnelly that Nativity scenes are allowed on public grounds. So in addition to being an anti-Christian bigot, the mayor of Mullins is also legally and historically illiterate.

It's nice that the good guys won this round. Merry Christmas, y'all.
