A police officer in Las Vegas will soon have some explaining to do for reportedly having knocked off three separate casinos on his beat:
Jury selection is under way in the trial for a Las Vegas police officer accused of stealing nearly $165,000 in a series of daring casino heists.
Prosecutors have painted Caleb Rogers as a gambling addict who grew increasingly desperate under a crush of debt.
Rogers โ who allegedly carried out at least one of the heists using his service pistol โ would reportedly don "a face mask, dark clothing and black latex gloves" before holding up the casinos.
Here's maybe the craziest part:
Then the suspect with the 'unique gait' ran back to a 'disposable vehicle,' limping 'because of a problem with his leg,' according to a criminal complaint.
So in addition to robbing some of the most heavily policed, surveilled, protected and connected businesses on the planet, the criminal also had a strongly identifiable and noticeable feature about him. This is the kind of thing that makes apprehension a snap. How dumb can you get? Oh right, use your service weapon...
Well, it still took them quite a while. The first heist was carried out in November of 2021. Authorities only nabbed the suspect in February of last year.
Authorities reportedly asked Rogers if anything could have been done to prevent the robberies from taking place:
"Nothing," Rogers said.
Uh huh. I get a feeling nothing will be able to prevent the jury from locking him up for years too.
