A Microsoft executive was straight-up executed earlier this year and his ex-wife and her new husband are very much under suspicion for it

This story has been getting relatively little attention over the past few months so you may not have heard of it, but it's—well, it's a doozy:

The ex-wife of a Microsoft executive who was murdered in front of his 2-year-old daughter in Florida earlier this year has hired a criminal defense attorney, according to reports.

Jared Bridegan, 33, was fatally shot in a "targeted" killing after dropping his twins off at the home of their mother, Shanna Gardner-Fernandez, in a quiet Jacksonville neighborhood in February, police said. ...

Jared Bridegan was found dead next to his SUV with multiple bullet wounds with Bexley still strapped into her car seat.

The car had its emergency lights flashing when officers arrived and there was a spare tire in the middle of the street. Detectives said those circumstances suggested that Bridegan may have been lured to his death.

Yeah uh that sounds like a textbook assassination/execution. You barricade or throw something in the street to get someone to stop, then pop them and run away.

Of course, if the poor guy was indeed deliberately executed as part of a targeted hit, it raises the question: Why?

Who would want him dead?

Investigators are of course asking that question, which is probably why his ex-wife is lawyering up:

As police continue to investigate, [ex Shanna] Gardner-Fernandez and her new husband, Mario Fernandez, have retained the services of prominent criminal defense attorney Henry Coxe III, Fox News reported.

Wise move. Whatever her guilt or innocence, meanwhile, Gardner-Fernandez is not making herself look good during all this:

The ex-wife of slain Microsoft executive Jared Bridegan asked his widow for his death certificate just 12 days after he was gunned down in front of his 2-year-old daughter in a tony suburb of north Florida, Fox News has learned.

"My attorney has requested a copy of Jared's death certificate for the family court. You can send it to me or to him and his paralegal directly, whichever you prefer," wrote Shanna Gardner-Fernandez in the terse Feb. 28 email to Kirsten Bridegan.

Ice cold. And as Fox News reports:

The couple remain suspects in the murder[.]

I think I know where I'm placing my bets on this one.
