New Jersey GOP councilwoman gunned down outside her home in targeted attack

Eunice Dwumfour, a 30-year-old Republican councilwoman from New Jersey was discovered dead in her SUV Wednesday night near her home.

The vehicle crashed and police discovered she had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

One witness said that the gunman shot at Dwumfour and drove off quickly from the Camelot at La Mer apartment complex. A call to police was made at 7:22 pm.

The councilwoman and young mother is believed to be the intended target, though a motive was not given by police.

She was a beloved community member according to friends and family, as well as a God-loving young mother.

According to the Daily Mail, close friends posted about Dwumfour's death, describing her as an "amazing friend" who "loved God." Detective Juan Rodriguez and Pastor Doctor Nelia Rodriguez posted online saying: "I just saw her this morning at the store."I remember saying to her I'll see you at the HRC meeting tomorrow not knowing tonight was going to be the end of her life."I can't stop crying. She was 30 years young and full of life. You will be missed my dear, precious friend," one post wrote.

The young mother defeated the sitting Democrat in Sayreville in November 2021, and was not up for reelection until 2024.

There has not been a reported suspect or motive yet. Police say they are looking for several suspects in the case.
