A proposed bill in NY would give the governor power to detain individuals "indefinitely" who are deemed a threat due to a "case or suspected case of contagious disease"

Well, this is just a little bit disturbing.

Yep, reported by The National Pulse, a bill in New York would allow the governor to target individuals or groups that pose a public health threat and indefinitely detain them, and keep them from public life.

You can read the text of the bill on the New York State Assembly website:

Here's the important section:

"UPON DETERMINING BY CLEAR AND CONVINCING EVIDENCE THAT THE HEALTH OF OTHERS IS OR MAY BE ENDANGERED BY A CASE, CONTACT OR CARRIER, OR SUSPECTED CASE, CONTACT OR CARRIER OF A CONTAGIOUS DISEASE THAT, IN THE OPINION OF THE GOVERNOR, AFTER CONSULTATION WITH THE COMMISSIONER, MAY POSE AN IMMINENT AND SIGNIFICANT THREAT TO THE PUBLIC HEALTH RESULTING IN SEVERE MORBIDITY OR HIGH MORTALITY, THE GOVERNOR OR HIS OR HER DELE- GEE, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE COMMISSIONER OR THE HEADS OF LOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENTS, MAY ORDER THE REMOVAL AND/OR DETENTION OF SUCH A PERSON OR OF A GROUP OF SUCH PERSONS BY ISSUING A SINGLE ORDER, IDEN- TIFYING SUCH PERSONS EITHER BY NAME OR BY A REASONABLY SPECIFIC DESCRIPTION OF THE INDIVIDUALS OR GROUP BEING DETAINED. SUCH PERSON OR GROUP OF PERSONS SHALL BE DETAINED IN A MEDICAL FACILITY OR OTHER APPRO- PRIATE FACILITY OR PREMISES DESIGNATED BY THE GOVERNOR OR HIS OR HER DELEGEE"

If a governor declares a "public health emergency" as many governors have done throughout the pandemic, this would give the governor the ability to single out individuals or groups and put them in some sort of detention, as long as the governor or her cronies deem necessary.

Even for a SUSPECTED case, as you read above.

So yeah, quarantine concentration camps like those we already see in Australia may be coming to a city near you!

This bill has only been written so far, it's not up for a vote and can't be until January. However, the idea that elected officials in the United States of America are even considering such measures is beyond the pale.
