A tornado was passing directly over a weatherman's house so he called his family on-air and told them to get into the basement

This dude wins father of the year, husband of the year, meteorologist of the year—he pretty much swept every category on Thursday:

Chief meteorologist Doug Kammerer paused his weather report on NBC Washington Thursday evening to call his family and inform them about a tornado warning nearby.

Kammerer was on the air at about 8:45 p.m. doing a lengthy weather report when the National Weather Service issued the warnings.

The path takes it "right over my house," Kammerer said on air with his cell phone in his hand while standing in front of a weather map showing the trajectory of the storm.

Mad props to Dad here for being very much in tune with his family:

"I know what my kids are doing right now. They're probably online gaming, and they're not seeing this."

Just FYI, "this" in question was a very severe storm that looks to have spawned something resembling a tornado:

That's no joke!
