A trailer just dropped for "Civil War," where Texas and California have teamed up, Nick Offerman is president, and journalists are the good guys

Is the plot of this movie that an evil Republican has taken over DC and so woke warriors have to rise up to save trans kids everywhere?

I'm calling it now.

Seriously, what did I just watch?

We're in a Cold Civil War right now in America. There are wildly different ideas about what it means to be an American at the moment, and unless we somehow learn to agree on basic elements of reality and morality again, conflict is inevitable.

But to actually make a feature film like this? You know they aren't going to be talking about the actual things dividing America, from abortion to "hate speech" laws to open borders to the use of the FBI to go after citizens who refuse to use preferred pronouns or think kids shouldn't have sex books in kindergarten.

So what is going to be the catalyst in this fictional America for the divide?

From Forbes:

The film takes place in a near-future in which the United States once again faces civil war. This time, the Western Forces (rather than the Confederate South) have seceded from the Union. 19 states have broken off from the USA...

How exactly does that work? We aren't geographically divided like we were in the Civil War. This isn't an East v. West thing. Our national divide is happening on a house-by-house, street-by-street basis.

In a tense stand-off scene, the characters played by Dunst, 41, Spaeny, 35, and Moura, 47, are ambushed by a group led by Plemons' character.

"We're American, okay?" Moura tells him.

"Okay. What kind of American are you?" asks Plemons, 35, adding with a laugh before raising his gun, "You don't know?"

Yeah, something tells me that Plemons is going to be the Trump-voting Bible believer who wants to murk the journalists for not pledging immediate allegiance to Christian Nationalism.

Red sunglasses = MAGA hat of the future?

99% chance this film is BlueAnon conspiracy bait, and it's releasing right around the kickoff to the general 2024 election to remind them that Orange Man is a dictator, J6 was an insurrection, and anyone who votes red needs to be censored and unpersoned.

I'd love to be wrong, but this is how Hollywood works these days. They have no bearing on reality or the real problems we face.

From People:

The heart-pounding trailer features Offerman, 53, as the president of the United States, addressing the "citizens of America" about the war.

"The so-called Western forces of Texas and California have suffered a very grave defeat at the hands of the United States military...

Yeah, so they got Ron from Parks & Rec to be the president, and considering the "Western forces" are marching on DC, I'm guessing he's the bad [read: Republican] guy.

Mike Johnson, is that you?

Basically J6 right here

But I can't wait for them to explain how Texas and California are leading the rebel alliance against Washington.

Did you catch the "Jesus Saves" sign on the church steeple right before an F-22 Raptor dropped a bomb on US citizens?

Anyway, lots of people are excited to see this I guess, cuz watching movies about us killing each other is better than actually killing each other, but I'm not gonna be shocked if me and everyone who believes like me is painted as the bad guy in this flick.

The real question?
