NYC Update! Lady thrown down subway stairs and whacked with hammer before being robbed, crime up by double-digits

There's...a lot going on in the rest of the world, so it can be easy, for a time, to forget about certain domestic issues.

Such as, for example, the once-in-a-generation bonkers surge in violent crime in New York City:

A 57-year-old woman was kicked down the stairs and bashed in the head with a hammer before being robbed Thursday night at the Queens Plaza subway station in Long Island City, authorities say.

The woman walked into the station shortly before 11:30 p.m. and was ambushed from behind. Cops say the stranger pulled out the hammer after kicking her down the stairs and hit her with it multiple times in the head.

He then took her purse and fled the scene. It's not clear if any words were exchanged.

Yeah I kindly doubt any "words were exchanged."

This isn't a random incident and it isn't isolated. New York City is seeing a surge in crime the likes of which it hasn't witnessed in many years.

Consider the NYPD's figures on year-to-date crime increases citywide:

I mean, look at those insane surges in rape, assault, grand larceny—just off the charts.

This is what's happening in New York now. You'd be forgiven for staying away from there for the foreseeable future.
