This was Australia's first attempt at launching a locally-built rocket into outer space, and let me tell you, it did not go well.

This is my favorite footage of the "launch":

Yes, 14 seconds of glorious flight before plopping right back down where they started ... which is two seconds longer than the Wright Brothers' first flight, so that's something.

This "launch" was performed by Gilmour Space Technologies, and believe it or not one of the founders said the company was "happy" with the launch.

Gilmour Space already has another rocket under construction and will be back in about six months' time to try this again.
