"Guardian Angels" return to protect NYC subway since authorities seem incapable of doing so

Welcome back to the New York subway system's favorite '80s flashback: The Guardian Angels.

Decked out in their signature red berets and jackets, they're back on the trains and doing what Democrats refuse to do: Keep New Yorkers safe.

After a sleeping woman was murdered on the subway in Brooklyn by an illegal immigrant who set her on fire, the Guardian Angels have resumed patrols, promising to bring a dose of citizen accountability back to the subway.

Led by Curtis Sliwa — former mayoral candidate, full-time character — they've mobilized three-person teams to roam subway cars. Their mission? Wellness checks for the homeless (with water bottles in hand) and a promise to call the NYPD if things go south.

"We're covering the actual trains from front to back, walking through the trains and making sure that everything is okay," Sliwa told the New York Post. "We're doing this constantly now. Starting today. that's going to be our complete focus because the subways are out of control."

The last time the Guardian Angels were seen on patrol was in 2020 after a wave of anti-Asian violence in the city.

Despite an ongoing explosion of crime in what was once one of the safest cities in the world, the city mayor's office rejected this action as a "meaningless stunt."

"The mayor surged 1,000 police officers per day into the subways, has brought down overall crime, and transit crime, delivering real action — not theatrics — but he knows there's still more work to be done. Unlike others who only seek attention with meaningless stunts, Mayor Adams remains focused on real solutions," Mayor Eric Adams' office said.
