It's about time!
Remember when you were a kid, and you'd get a McFlurry, and it would come with that neato hollow spoon, and every time you'd think it was a straw โ because why else would it be hollow?? โ and you'd try and slurp your McFlurry up through it, and it would never work, and you'd be like, "What a cheat! This thing isn't a straw!", and you'd do that every time?
Well, no more. Finally, children will no longer be subject to this cruel psychological torture.
McDonald's is getting rid of one its most recognizable utensils.
The McFlurry spoon, which sparked confusion among its fans for being hollow, is being phased out as the fast food chain says it seeks more sustainable alternatives. The clear plastic spoon doubled as a spindle, with the utensil being inserted into the McFlurry machine to mix in the toppings into the ice cream.
Ahh. It was a "spindle." That makes sense. Um, I guess. At least I finally have an answer.
So while you were sitting at one of those nice plastic McDonald's booths doing this...
...they're over there using it as a mixing wand. I get it now.
Well, it was always a stupid design. It was made just to be confusing. Good riddance!
And yes, I mean, look, I'm not a greenie, I'm not a Greta Thunberg commie or anything like that, but I mean come on: It's also pretty wasteful.
If it's just going to be a spoon and not a straw, then for goodness's sake, just use a basic metal or plastic spindle on the machine itself. Don't give us this weird fake-straw-spoon thing because you're too lazy to spring for an actual mixer.
Not gonna lie though, if it had actually been a spoon that could double as a straw... that would've been cool.
