What the absolute heck is going on in South Africa??
Josh Sullivan, a missionary from Maryville, TN, was preaching at a Baptist church in South Africa on Thursday night when 4 masked gunmen stormed in, kidnapped the pastor at gunpoint, drove off with him in his own car, and then vanished according to police.
A spokesperson from the US State Department told the BBC that they were aware of the kidnapping of a US citizen in South Africa.
They said there was no "greater priority than the safety and security of US citizens abroad".
Capt Beetge told the BBC the case had been handed to South Africa's elite police unit, known as the Hawks, which investigates serious organised and commercial crimes and high-level corruption.
According to a spokesman for the Sullivan family, Pastor Josh's wife and kids were in attendance when the gunmen burst in. The kidnappers also knew Sullivan's name, meaning that they almost certainly went there specifically to kidnap him.
There are currently no leads, there's no ransom, and there has been no indication as to why Sullivan, who has been a missionary in South africa since 2018, was targeted.
