Hardcore liberal and persistent Trump critic Bill Maher expressed a newfound appreciation for the president, praising Trump's self-awareness during their recent dinner together at the White House.
Though he admittedly was no closer to joining the MAGA movement than he was before, the comedian was taken aback by how engaging the president was in a more intimate setting.
From USA Today:
'No, I didn't go MAGA, and to the president's credit, there was no pressure to,' Maher said during his opening monologue on the April 11 episode of his Max late-night talk show, Real Time with Bill Maher.
Maher conceded Trump is 'much more self-aware than he lets on in public' but acknowledged, 'It doesn't matter who he is at a private dinner with a comedian; it matters who he is on the world stage.' He later added, 'Why can't we get the guy I met to be the public guy?'
Maher was quick to point out that he remains a staunch opponent to the Trump administration's policies on trade, immigration, executive orders, and would continue to call out the president accordingly.
Maher even brought with him a printed list of all the derogatory things the president has said about him over the years — which Trump graciously signed for him.
This is how it starts.
At this rate, Bill will be wearing a MAGA baseball cap before you know it.
