Well, I'm not sure what to make of this one:

Capt. James Bellew, an Army pilot at Fort Stewart-Hunter Airfield in Georgia, was killed last week in a helicopter crash that is currently under criminal investigation, Savannah Now reported.

An official statement issued March 30 from Fort Stewart-Hunter Airfield's 3rd Infantry Division confirmed the incident that killed Bellew involved two UH-60 helicopters at Wright Army Airfield, but did not share further details.

On Monday, an anonymous source familiar with the investigation told the Army Times that the incident, which occurred at approximately 2 a.m., was "not an accident."

It is worth noting that officials open criminal investigations as a routine part of non-combat servicemember deaths. But the fact that the investigation is still underway is notable, according to the Army Times:

A spokesperson for 3rd Infantry Division, Lt. Col. Lindsey Elder, said the service's Criminal Investigation Division is probing the crash. CID also has support from Army Combat Readiness Center safety experts.

[The Army's Criminal Investigation Division's] continued involvement indicates that criminal activity is suspected in the crash, according to Army accident investigation regulations. CRC experts typically lead routine accident inquiries, but an "accident investigation will be discontinued if the evidence indicates that the incident was the result of a criminal act," the regulation reads.

What on earth happened here?
