NC State Football Announcer Fired For Referring To "Illegal Aliens" During Broadcast

File this under "not surprising, still stupid":

NC State radio broadcaster Gary Hahn was suspended indefinitely after referring to "illegal aliens" in El Paso, Texas, during the Wolfpack's 16-12 loss to Maryland in the Duke's Mayo Bowl in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Friday.

Hahn made the comments as he relayed the score of the Sun Bowl, saying, "Down among all the illegal aliens in El Paso, it's UCLA 14 and Pittsburgh 6."

Learfield Communications, the NC State broadcast rights holder, employs Hahn and confirmed the suspension to ESPN.

Here's the broadcast that got the man canned:

I mean...that's it?

Two things can be true about this:

  • Sure, maybe it was unnecessary to refer to all the "illegal aliens" in El Paso; it didn't add anything to the broadcast and was plainly a little political aside from the announcer.
  • It was not at all a big deal to say it. "Illegal aliens" is not an offensive term, no matter what they want us to believe. And news flash: there are a ton of illegal aliens down in El Paso.

Stupid woke cancel culture takes another scalp.
