Animal shelter refuses adopting pets to anyone that supports the Second Amendment

A Southern California animal shelter in Thousand Oaks, California will only allow you to adopt a pet if you support gun restrictions.

According to NBC news, Shelter Hope Pet Shop owner Kim Sill says that NRA membership is a deal breaker.

(Isn't it funny that lefties associate 2A supporters with the NRA considering most 2A supporters aren't members of the NRA and/or like them at all?)

Their website specifically says,

If your beliefs are not in line with ours, we will not adopt a pet to you.

They also lay out some very specific rules for adopting a pet from Hope Shelter.

  • You have to be 25 or over
  • There's a 1-hour interview
  • Home ownership required, or a positive interview with the landlord
  • A home inspection
  • And of course you must be a "like-minded human" when it comes to guns

The owners of Shelter Hope also make it very clear that they will literally take you to court if you lie.

If you lie about being a NRA supporter, make no mistake, we will sue you for fraud. If you believe that it is our responsibility to protect ourselves in public places and arm ourselves with a gun--do not come to us to adopt a dog.

They also say that if you ever adopted from them in the past and support the Second Amendment, they'll retroactively apply their new policy and come and pick up their dogs and cats.

You might not want to cross that line, Kim Sill ๐Ÿ‘‡

It turns out that a lot of Shelter Hope's donors are Second-Amendment supporters who have threatened to cut off their funding. Kim Sill doesn't care.

"I say, fine, keep your money," she said. "If I go out of business, as a result, I go out of business. But I have to do something. And this is the only thing I can do to make the point that mass killings by people armed with guns have to stop."

Sill says that the Uvalde school shooting was her tipping point and that this is the best thing she can do to proactively fight against gun ownership.

Legally, Sill is well within her rights of free association to make these rules as she's not discriminating against sex, race, or religion, but it does come at a heavy cost to the animals she claims to care about.

There are a lot of dogs and cats that will be going without a caring home in California today!
