Congress-awomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was on Instagram responding to questions from her followers when one asked,
"Any discussion in Congress about federal truth and reconciliation or media literacy initiatives to help with healing?"
I am starting to think that what I consider to be healing is not the same as what they think of as healing.
To set the table, let's first examine what the left thinks about healing by taking a look at Jennifer "Prosecute Incitement and Sedition" Rubin (that's the real name she's going by on Twitter at the moment) of the Washington Post.
Here's your healing right here, buddy.
Someone might want to screen-capture the definition before Merriam-Webster changes it.
Lots of things would be unifying or provide healing. Let's start with these:
"Start." I highlight that because it's a LONG list, but I'll just give you four examples.
The House could impeach Trump, and the Senate could come back in session to hold a trial and remove him swiftly.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who pulled his caucus over the cliff in the desperate hope to maintain the Big Lie and cater to Trump, could resign.
A combination of Democrats and all Republicans who voted to certify the electoral college results in the House and Senate could expel or censure members who objected to certification.
Corporate donors could permanently cut off support for anyone who objected to the electoral votes, an attack on our democracy.
Just your old-fashioned purge of opponents. Happens all the time.
Speaking of "happens all the time," you know how many times Democratic members of Congress voted against certifying electoral votes and charging voter fraud?
Only every election since 2000 where a Republican won.
But we're told that's different because shut up.
Which brings us back to Ocasio-Cortez. In response to the question I led with, AOC answered:
"I can say, there is absolutely a commission being discussed but it seems to be more investigatory, in style rather than truth and reconciliation, so I think that's an interesting concept for us to explore,.."
She's discussing the potential creation of a truth and reconciliation commission in the same flat manner and tone you would the details of a highway bill.
This is perfectly normal to her.
"...and I do think that several members of Congress, in some of my discussions, have brought up media literacy because that is a part of what happened here and we're going to have to figure out how we rein in our media environment so that you can't just spew disinformation and misinformation."
I suspect that like "healing," AOC has a very different definition of "media literacy," and "disinformation."
Keep in mind, among a dozen other examples of media "disinformation" each and every one of you could recite off the top of your head, the New York Times won, and has not yet returned, A PULITZER PRIZE FOR ITS REPORTING ON THE RUSSIAN COLLUSION HOAX.
Staffs of The New York Times and The Washington Post
For deeply sourced, relentlessly reported coverage in the public interest that dramatically furthered the nation's understanding of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and its connections to the Trump campaign, the President-elect's transition team and his eventual administration. (The New York Times entry, submitted in this category, was moved into contention by the Board and then jointly awarded the Prize.)
How about a truth and reconciliation commission for that?
One more thing before you go.
This is part of a chain of videos of her Instagram session. The second video will get you the "media literacy" piece, the first one however includes this.
Southern states are not red states, they are suppressed states. Which means the only way our country is going to heal is through the actual liberation of southern states.
A few questions for my friends currently residing in red states:
Are you feeling suppressed?
Are you eagerly awaiting the arrival of AOC to liberate you?
How's your "media literacy?"
