Have you ever heard of using Lent to bring back racism?
Yep!
Jamal Bryant, a pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Georgia, has an interesting and not-coordinated-with-Democrats-at-all idea for Lent: a 40-day boycott of Target to protest the decision to get rid of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) commitments, which The Philadelphia Tribune said is "seen as a threat to economic opportunities, mentorships, and hiring initiatives for black professionals and businesses."
Here's how the effort is explained on the website TargetFast.org (of course there's a website).
And here are the "four demands of Target," actually listed next to a picture of Frederick Douglass!
1) Honor the 2 billion dollar pledge to the black business community through products, services, and black media buys.
2) Deposit 250 million amongst any of our 23 black banks.
3) Completely restoring the franchise commitment to DEI.
4) Pipeline community centers at 10 HBCU to teach retail business at every level.
"The target fast is March 5 through April 17. At the conclusion of the fast we will collect data of the impact and attempt to meet with targets [sic] board so to assess whether we sojourn into phase 2," the website adds. "The stock holders meeting is June 12th in Minneapolis the same city George Floyd was killed in so we pray to have resolve before then."
Good luck with that.
