The actual headline:
This is the strictest Covid vaccine mandate I've ever heard of. And, I mean, are we really surprised that it's coming from Australia?
I'll try to pretend I am.
Here's the gist of it:
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, the Chief Minister [of the Northern Territory, Michael Gunner] said frontline and public facing workers will be required to get their first dose of a COVID-19 jab by November 12 and their second dose by December 24.
Those who fail to comply with the direction will not be permitted to attend their workplace and could be slapped with a $5,000 [US$3,700] fine.
And just in case you think I'm pulling your leg (you probably don't, because you know how things are going in Australia):
"So it is simple: if your job includes interacting with members of the public, then you need to get the jab. If you work in hospitality, you need to get the jab. If you work in retail or in a supermarket, you need to get the jab. If you are behind the counter at the bank, if you're a receptionist or positions like that, you need to get the jab. If you are a barber, a hairdresser, a beauty therapist, you need to get the jab. All these workers and many many more directly interact with members of the public. That means you are frontline workers in our economy. That means you must be vaccinated.
Of course there can be exemptions. But these are extremely narrow, and must be backed up with medical evidence. Simply not wanting the vaccine is not a reason."
Yup, this bro actually uttered that nonsense.
It's not clear to me, but it seems like—and Sky News is reporting as if—you will not just be able to quit your job and avoid the $5000 fine. It looks like you'll be paying that fine regardless.
Which is bogus.
And I like how they give you til Christmas Eve, too. Like, merry Christmas ya filthy animal! Here's a $5,000 fine!!!
So dumb.
This is unacceptable, but in the new world of Australian fascism you never know what's going to happen.
I hope these people start to resist.
It's their only hope.
