It just breaks the ol' heart to see such a nice hard-left corporation reaping the bitter fruits it has sowed:
The outdoor retail giant REI announced Monday that it plans to close its store in Portland's Pearl District early next year, citing an increase in crime and theft.
In an email to customers Monday, REI said its store in Portland "had its highest number of break-ins and thefts in two decades, despite actions to provide extra security."
Oh really?
You may remember that REI was among the very first corporations to jump on board the woke, #BlackLivesMatter, DEI bandwagon in 2020 amid the George Floyd riots:
We will continue to work with our partners, across the country, who have worked for years in service of greater equity and inclusion in the outdoors.
From "greater equity and inclusion," to "We can't keep our store open because it's being raided relentlessly by petty criminals," in just a few short years. That's equity for ya!
Portland, of course, has been at the epicenter of violent chaos since 2020, with the city experiencing huge shocks of crime, drug use, violence and homeless camps since then.
And retailers have been fleeing the city in droves:
This has been going on for a while. But what, exactly, was the straw that broke the camel's back and caused REI itself to finally pack up shop?
The company said its theft problem came to a head last November, when a car crashed through the glass front doors of REI's Pearl District store on Black Friday. It was the store's third break-in in a week.
Yup, it really happened:
I hope you land in greener climes, REI โ and I hope you drop your woke addiction while you're at it!
