I'm sorry, but this is awesome. Cam McCormick is taking his "last ride," his goodbye tour in 2024 as he enters his ninth year of college football.

Dude, I don't know whether to laugh or to cry.

Nine years of college football!

To give you some perspective, McCormick entered college in 2016.

2016!!!!!

That's the same recruiting class as Jalen Hurts and Justin Herbert, who are now both essentially veteran quarterbacks in the NFL.

Miami Hurricanes tight end Cam McCormick is heading back to school to play his final year of college football.

McCormick, who is 25 years old, according to ESPN, will be playing in his ninth season.

McCormick petitioned the NCAA to allow him to play in his ninth year due to four seasons in which injuries caused him to miss significant time.

I have to admit, I'm pulling for this kid (is kid the appropriate noun here?). And I'll even pull for Miami just for the heck of it. I mean, nine years?!?!? I gotta root for this guy.

Let's see what those initial eight years looked like.

  • So in 2016 he redshirted at Oregon, which means he was only on the practice squad.
  • In 2017 he played 7 games in his "freshman" year.
  • 2018 was where the trouble started. McCormick broke his leg that year in his first game.
  • He didn't play at all in 2019, and then luckily was granted an extra year of eligibility.
  • In 2020, most of the season was canceled and McCormick records no stats.
  • 2021 saw McCormick break his foot, and in 2022 he played a full season.
  • In 2023 he played a full season at Miami, and now, with only about three seasons worth of games under his belt, McCormick has been granted a NINTH year of eligibility by the ACC.

AGAIN: A NINTH YEAR!!

Man, that is awesome! I hope the dude is taking full advantage of this opportunity and getting his studies in. Lord knows he's had plenty of time to hit the books!

Best of luck, Cam.

Go break a leg out there!
