Baltimore County Recreation and Parks accidentally mows down entire wildlife refuge

Nature lovers in Baltimore County are furious after government workers accidentally mowed down an entire wildlife habitat.

Picture this: A serene meadow in Cockeysville, Maryland, just minding its own business, working hard as a wildlife habitat: home to pollinators and birds in the prime of their nesting season.

Enter Baltimore County workers who apparently mistook this biodiversity hotspot for a backyard in dire need of a trim. And what did they do? They mowed it all down.

This seemingly idyllic meadow was not just any patch of grass. It was a thriving ecosystem: a five-star resort for bees, butterflies, and birds doing their annual nesting gig. Now, it looks more like a bad haircut in a pro-Hamas march, made worse by the fact that its former residents have been evicted.

"Usually it's a late fall or winter timeline, so there's plenty of time for the meadow to grow appropriately and it should have happened in that timeline and it did not," said Bob Smith, Director of Baltimore County Recs and Parks, adding that this whole fiasco was just an "honest mistake."

"It was nothing malicious," Smith said. "Unfortunately, mistakes were made. Our task now moving forward is to establish protocols and processes to bring the control of park maintenance to the recreation and parks agency and put a park maintenance lens on what we do there."

Nature advocates were outraged, naturally. But not to worry. The Biden administration is hard at work to amend this issue, and has announced that a busload of military-aged male bugs and birds are on their way from the southern border as we speak.
