Residents of Springfield, Ohio, are looking to their city council to deal with the influx of tens of thousands of Haitian immigrants that has had deadly consequences for the town.
Springfield, a town just west of Columbus, has been a hotspot for Haitian immigrants since 2014, seeing around 10,000 move in before Joe Biden's administration before doubling to over 20,000.
In a town with a population of around 60,000 people.
Ohio's Republican U.S. Senator (and Trump VP pick) J.D. Vance is pointing fingers straight at the Biden administration, whose immigration policies are turning small towns like Springfield into pressure cookers.
"This self-imposed disaster is crushing job prospects, making housing hard to find, and draining social services funded by American taxpayers," Vance said. "People who are here illegally should be sent back to their home countries as soon as possible, and individuals here on temporary status should not expect to stay indefinitely."
The sheer number of immigrants, many of whom don't speak English, is turning Springfield's services into a circus. The ongoing crisis in Haiti that has created scenes like this on the southern U.S. border ...
... has led to skyrocketing social services costs for this Ohio town.
And while some longtime residents initially didn't mind the growing Haitian community, things have changed. Now, there are tensions over illegal driving, overcrowded homes (with dozens to a house in some cases), and schools bursting at the seams.
Let alone when the Haitian flag replaced the Stars and Stripes at city hall during Flag Day!
Like so many towns across the nation, immigration has consequences beyond resources. Last August, 11-year-old Aiden Clark tragically died in a school bus accident caused by a migrant driving illegally. Hermanio Joseph, who'd been in the U.S. for just over a year and had no driver's license, crashed into oncoming traffic, flipping a school bus on its way to the first day of school. Aiden was ejected from the bus and killed, and a dozen other kids were hurt.
Joseph was found guilty on involuntary manslaughter and vehicular homicide counts, but the damage was done, and the town's anger boiled over.
Biden might spend his time congratulating himself and border czar Kamala Harris for handling the illegal immigration crisis they created, but the fact is that this crisis goes well beyond the border, and is impacting small towns across the nation that, unless blue votes are up for grabs, go unnoticed in D.C.
