Yesterday U.S. President Joe Biden addressed the country in the mien of an all-powerful monarch, his voice—while characteristically raspy and trembling—nevertheless dripping with open disdain for the countrymen he nominally serves:

My message to unvaccinated Americans is this: What more is there to wait for? What more do you need to see? We've made vaccinations free, safe and convenient. The vaccine is F.D.A. approved. Over 200 million Americans have gotten at least one shot. We've been patient, but our patience is wearing thin. And your refusal has cost all of us.

The naked hostility the president showed toward tens of millions of Americans was too much even for CNN's Jake Tapper, who never met a Democrat he didn't like but still suggested that Biden should have soft-pedaled his undisguised contempt:

Tapper's reaction to Biden's condemnation, meanwhile, was too much for many viewers, who claimed that Tapper and CNN were dangerously pandering to those rebellious Americans who don't want a novel form of genetic therapy:
