Last week, authorities on Martha's Vineyard apprehended a Brazilian fugitive, Saulo Cardoso Ferreira, 37, who was convicted of raping a 5-year-old in his home country.

The arrest was carried out by Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston, a division of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, during a traffic stop in West Tisbury last Tuesday.

ERO Boston Field Office Director Todd Lyons said in a statement:

This undocumented Brazilian national represented a significant threat to the inhabitants of Martha's Vineyard. He sexually assaulted a 5-year-old child in his homeland and then ran from authorities when held accountable for his actions.

It turns out the pedophile sex offender was in the US illegally.

But don't worry, guys! The border is totally under control!

Ferreira was convicted of multiple crimes in Brazil, including the disturbing rape of the 5-year-old child, and received a 14-year prison sentence in 2019.

He never showed up to serve his sentence in May of that year, and ICE believed he had fled the country. Authorities in the Brazilian town of Sorriso, Mato Grosso, issued a warrant for his arrest.

Investigators have no idea when exactly the convicted sex offender entered the US, but they can confirm that he entered the country illegally without undergoing inspection or receiving admission from immigration officials.

As reported by ICE, ERO Boston became aware of Ferreira's presence on the island off Cape Cod, Massachusetts, on September 28. Subsequently, officers from ERO Boston detained him on November 14.

In the fiscal year 2022, ERO officers have arrested 46,396 noncitizens with criminal histories across the United States, according to ICE.

ERO Boston will not allow such predators to threaten our residents. We will continue to apprehend and remove anyone who attempts to use our New England community as a refuge from justice.

ICE officials have stated that he will remain in ERO custody until removal proceedings are initiated.

I can put together a long list of what the US should do with him in the meantime or what Brazil should do with him once they have him back on their land. Unfortunately, I think NTB has editorial rules against some of the things I would like to say.

At least they have this sicko in custody...

In 2021, a report from the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights said that across Brazil, inmates were "often held in overcrowded and structurally deficient prisons, maltreated, and frequently subjected to torture".

Enjoy Brazilian prison, sicko.
