Stores pull Cadbury "Gesture Eggs" promo after some genius removed the word "Easter" and caused public outcry

Back in 2022, chocolate giant Cadbury was embroiled in a scandal involving reports of shocking child labor abuses in their supply chain.

But I guess not even that PR nightmare was enough?

A series of shops were offering deals at stores in England: Two "Gesture Eggs" for ยฃ10 (prices these days!).

The Daily Mail

The CEO of Christian Concern, Andrea Williams, told the Daily Mail that Cadbury was founded by Christians and it's a great disappointment to see the company moving away from Easter.

The original Cadbury family who founded the business were deeply motivated by their Christian faith and used profits from their business to serve charitable causes across the world.

It's a shame for them to have forgotten those deep Christian roots.

This wasn't the only shop selling the "Gesture" Eggs. Many other Cadbury outlet stores in Cheshire Oaks, Wirral, and Alfreton, Derbyshire, were also promoting them.

Here's the twist: It appears some random genius in the shops decided to remove the Easter from Easter eggs and corporate had nothing to do with it.

The BBC reported that parent company Mondelez issued this statement:

Cadbury has used the word Easter in our marketing and communications for over 100 years and continue to do so with our new Easter product range. To claim anything otherwise is factually incorrect. ...

We have contacted Freshstore, the independent retailer who put up this poster in a very limited number of stores, and we understand they will be taking these posters down.

Victory at last!

Nice to see Christians can still be mobilized to care about something in the culture war. ๐Ÿ˜‚
