So long, hope! See you in 2022 (maybe).

Calgary's city council has extended its mask bylaw through the end of 2021.

Yes, you read that right.

December 2021 😩

Though, they did indicate it could be rescinded before then if enough people get vaccinated by next fall.

Speaking about the updated bylaw, mayor Naheed Nenshi said,

"If we're looking at people in Alberta being fully vaccinated by the fall, then obviously there will be no need for the bylaw at that time."

This is the same mayor who told Covid protestors to "stop being so fricken' self-indulgent."

Residents of Calgary will also face steeper fines under the updated bylaw. Previously mask infractions would cost you a cool $50. Now they will be $100 for the first infraction, $200 for the second, and $300 for every infraction after that.

The reason for the increased fines? "At this point, everybody's got a mask, everybody knows the rules," Nenshi said. "And so if you're not wearing your mask, it's not by mistake."

Obey or pay.

Or as Nenshi actually said, "If you don't quit it, you're going to get a ticket."

Don't you just love authoritarian nursery rhymes? So fun!

Canada, what is you doin, baby??
