Yesterday, the massive $14.45 billion publicly-traded company Twilio announced a round of layoffs using an "anti-racist" and "anti-oppression" lens.
Sure, what can go wrong...
The CEO of Twilio, the technology firm, Jeff Lawson, sent out an email to all employees explaining that layoffs are "wise and necessary." He described how the company grew "at an astonishing rate" and now needs to do fewer things, but better.
"By no fault of the Twilions impacted today, we've curtailed our investment in areas of Go To Market where customers can succeed without as much human intervention, as well as making targeted changes to be more efficient in areas of R&D and G&A," wrote Lawson.
Lawson says he and their company are committed to becoming an Anti-Racist/Anti-Oppression company, which may not seem like something you'd need to mention because, duh.
According to Lawson, layoffs have a "more pronounced impact on marginalized communities," which is why these layoffs were carried out through an "Anti-Racist/Anti-Oppression lens."
Someone is looking for woke points...
Layoffs happen; they suck and impact a lot of people. But you would hope these vast companies would keep things fair and do what is best for the company instead of looking at skin color.
But that is asking for too much from this San Francisco-based tech firm.
Twilio is more interested in workers' race than their value to the company.
Lawson ends his mass email by saying, "Today, it's okay to be a bit shocked and feel sad. And to support your colleagues. I am confident that we'll look back at this as a difficult time – but one that set up Twilio well for the future."
Aw, thanks, Jeff. Is it okay to feel sad about being fired for skin color?
Thanks for the support; your not-diverse-enough staff really needed those words of encouragement.
We shouldn't be shocked, though. Joe Biden, the leader of the free world himself, is pursuing a "total transformation of government" based on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
"I believe this nation and this government need to change their whole approach to the issue of racial equity," Biden said during a speech just days after his inauguration. "We need to open the promise of America to every American. And that means we need to make the issue of racial equity not just an issue for any one department of government; it has to be the business of the whole of government. … Every agency will be involved in this work because advancing equity has to be everyone's job."
The Daily Wire reached out to Twilio asking how many employees were let go under deliberations that weighed racial identity, but a spokesperson from the firm said Lawson's memo has all the information the public needs.
It makes you wonder...
From The Daily Wire:
Prioritizing diversity among staff — even at the expense of optimizing merit — is an objective frequently pursued at companies that have subscribed to the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) movement, by which executives tend to mingle left-wing politics with operations within their mandates.
Twilio, sadly, isn't the first US entity to adopt such a radical policy. Just last month, we saw a Minneapolis teachers union add straight-up racist policies into their contracts to lay off or reassign white teachers.
This woke nonsense is everywhere, from government agencies to tech companies and your local teacher's union. Soon the white kid next door won't even be able to get a job at a coffee shop.
Humanity should be moving away from racism; instead, our modern society has embraced it.
