Pastor Derek Reimer was arrested by Calgary Police on Wednesday after he protested a drag queen storytime event for children at a public library. He was charged with breaching a release order prohibiting him from being within 200 meters of "LGBTQ" events.
Reimer will remain in prison until his next bail hearing set for March 22.
As reported by Not The Bee, Reimer was previously arrested on March 2 after protesting a children's event at Seton Library featuring drag performers called "Reading with Royalty."
He was charged with one count of causing a disturbance, one count of mischief, and six counts of harassment from the first incident. Each charge comes with up to $10,000 in fines and up to six months in prison if he cannot pay.
Reimer was also issued a trespass notice at Calgary city hall on Tuesday after praying in objection to a law, which eventually passed, that added preventative measures against "draw show" protestors.
"Recent protests have targeted members of the [LGBTQ] community and impeding the city of Calgary's ability to provide safe and inclusive access to city services," the new law states. "The public is entitled to access these services without being exposed to messaging, or behaviour that is hateful, intimidates, harasses or discriminates."
