The "Lord of the Flies" is one of the best books for showing how humanity gives in to its basest desires without civilization and moral order.
That's why the woke hate it:
The Waterloo Region District School Board is undertaking a multi-year review of its library collections to identify and remove any texts deemed "harmful to staff and students."
What they mean by this is that any books contradicting their religious worldview must be burned. Teaching your kids to hate each other based on skin color or about gay sex is okay, but teaching them that the "noble savage" is a myth or that power corrupts is "harmful."
Graham Shantz, coordinating superintendent in human resources and equity services outlined the ongoing work during Tuesday's board meeting as part of an overview of the board's 2021-2022 strategic and operational plan.
"We recognize as our consciousness around equity, oppression work and anti-racist work has grown, we recognize some of the texts in some of the collections that we have are not appropriate at this point," Shantz said. He explained how the board developed a framework last year for reviewing its collections in elementary and secondary school libraries.
At least the book burnings will help keep Canadians warm this winter!
I'm starting to think this "equity" and "anti-racism" is actually about fascism, but I've been reliably told by the Antifa types burning down cities that only church-going grandmas with Trump stickers can be Nazis.
"Part of the work will allow teachers to expand their consciousness, utilizing the framework to evaluate what they have in their classrooms," Shantz said.
They can only "expand their consciousness" within the confined of wokeness, however. If they started teaching things like Adam Smith, John Milton, or William Golding, however, that's a bridge too far.
In fact, all white male authors are probably off limits (unless they identify as women).
Earlier this year, the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board removed William Golding's classic Lord of the Flies from its curriculum after its advisory committee on equity agreed with a student who said the book's themes were outdated and too focused on white, male power structures.
There it is.
A student complains (because they know everything about life and the universe), and the dummy dumbs who are supposed to be in charge capitulate to that juvenile tantrum by removing a book that has zero to do with gender or race and everything to do with essential lessons on human nature.
You know, the type of lessons we direly need right now to keep historical horrors from repeating themselves.
If there's one thing our children need right now, it's a quick review on the dangers of slipping into savagery, tribalism, authoritarianism, and violence.
But I mean, c'mon: look at this misogynistic quote from the book's author, Golding!
I think women are foolish to pretend they are equal to men, they are far superior and always have been.
How dare he!
Oh well. At least the woke beast is starting to devour itself. The era of dressing in red and pretending that anyone who disagrees with you is a violent theocratic fascist is quickly coming to an end!
Other books recently removed from Canadian school libraries and/or curriculums in response to complaints about racist, homophobic, or misogynistic language and themes, include Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird and Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale.
Also, the exposed hypocrisy at play here is another silver lining:
I'll leave you with some timeless wisdom from Golding:
"Maybe there is a beast... Maybe... it's only us."
