The Midnight Mass apparently took place on Christmas Eve at St. Mary's Church in Stuttgart and was led by Pastor Thomas Steiger and his pastoral assistant, Katharina Leser.
Rice paper was plastered over an adult human performer to give the appearance of an amniotic sac, which, according to Steiger, was meant to make the Nativity more raw, real, and vulnerable.
